A cheap Bottega Veneta crocodile?

croc

So it’s been a while since my last post but sometimes a just can’t find anything truly worth writing about and it’s at these times that laziness truly takes over. Still in the spirit of providing exciting updates on cheap designer handbags that you can buy today I decided to post about this new Bottega Veneta crocodile hobo bag that has just hit the shops. It’s not the first crocodile bag I’ve ever reviewed as I did go through quite a phase a few months ago with more than a couple of reviews. I suppose my main fascination with the material comes from looking for a change as quite often it’s just leather all the time in the handbag world.

The blue of this bag as you can see from the picture is really quite striking even though it is dark it still stands out across a room. Other main point i have to make is just how soft the material is and as you know I’m a real sucker for any bag that is comfortable, especially if it’s a big handbag like this which is designed to carry a lot. If this does sound like the bag for you then you might want to check out bottegaveneta.com for release dates and boutiques where you can buy. One point i have to make that many people may not be aware of is that many of the top designers to not allow their handbags to be sold online such as Chanel. Now this doesn’t mean you can’t find them if you look hard enough but beware as most will be fakes. Indeed any retailer selling un-authorised bags online can usually expect a lawyers letter very soon as all the top designers control the brand very tightly. It’s always best to buy with someone established as you probably already know!

Jimmy Choo purple Zebra Hobo

Zebra

The first thing i have to say about this latest Hobo from Jimmy Choo is that the colour looks simply amazing. Ok so maybe a bit overstated but this is one of those designer handbags that stands out from 100 miles away and instantly draws the eye. It really ticks the two boxes the catapult any fashion item into the stratosphere and that is:

  • Look amazing
  • Look different

Wasn’t a very long list was it, and it almost sounds too simple but it is true. Like all great designer bags though it does have one or two flaws, for one it doesn’t seem that practical as its in-between (in size terms) clutch and tote which is always an awkward place to be. I can’t help thinking it would be a lot easier to carry around if it had a larger handle (possibly shoulder) and maybe a little bigger? The thing is if Jimmy Choo did make these changes (think he is reading?) then it would look no-where near as stunning. So again we come back to the question of style over practicality, ideally you find the perfect combination of the two but in reality most of us just want the style fix and decide to leave practicality till tomorrow.

So if you are looking to throw your sensible hat out the window then this Jimmy Choo Zebra hobo can be yours for around £800.

New slouch in Python skin by Carlos Falchi

Python-Slouch

Ive always liked slouch bags mainly because they can look great but always stay comfortable at the same time. What i really like about this Carlos Falchi Python bag is the way this material looks on the surface. I have to admit that im not a great fan of animal skins in general on bags (oh wait leather lol) but i suppose Python isn’t an endangered species is it? Even if the RSPCA doesn’t approve i think this skin really does look amazing on this bag and takes things to a whole new exotic level. One thing that i have always worried about this these “scaly” bags is the scales flaking off due to wear and tear but i have heard good things about Carlos Falchi as they are considered specialists in exotic skins in fashion so hopefully know what they are doing with this hobo.

The colour in light brown is really natural and i think the overall look doesn’t stand out too much (a bad thing?). Also it is quite a big bag as you got a 12” drop from the zip to the bottom so it does fulfil the primary purpose of any slough and that’s to be able to carry alot of stuff around (if necessary). As you can expect with any exotic hobo/slough the price is pretty exotic too at around £2000. Still for something as special as Python skin i think its worth the price as you are buying a handbag that is sure to be as timeless as it looks.

Michael Kors new Hobo

Michael-Kors

So its been a while since we reviewed a nice safe sensible hobo bag. Well not that sensible i suppose as its almost £500 so for most of us your going to have to think about this purchase. Still i suppose what some people consider cheap others can view as ridiculously expensive, it all depends i suppose on what level of designer you are going to go for.

Still i do think this is a great example of a calfskin leather bag that will go with alot of different outfits. Michael Kors also has a reputation of being quite durable as the leather on this bag has been treated (in some way i don’t understand) to give it a really cool sheen that also helps protect it from the elements and wear and tear. I also really like the top handle as it has these multiple strands of fabric woven into a kind of “rope” effect which really stands out but still fits the overall design really well. It also has plenty of space inside and i always have to remind myself that that this is the No1 purpose of a good Hobo bag as its usually has to transport alot of “stuff” around.
